Liverpool - still feels like home
Liverpool, June 2022
As mentioned in earlier posts, the pandemic has completely
changed our plans of regular travels to Liverpool. When we were moving out of
the UK, the next trip back was booked for just a few months later. It didn’t
happen for 2.5 years.
It’s been a long time and the links with the place have
weakened a bit more that we would want to. Planning a trip back felt very
emotional, I was even imagining that I
would burst into tears when I get to see our old house in Liverpool, now
inhabited by someone else.
I didn’t. Instead, I was beaming 😊since
I entered the plane in Krakow and was greeted by a flight attendant with a very
strong scouse accent. We all couldn’t stop smiling, and kept telling each other
how much we loved Liverpudlians.
Walking through the streets of Liverpool made us feel like
we had never left. Visiting our well – known places and spending time with old
friends felt wonderful. It was also amazing how many acquaintances we met
accidentally in town. A big highlight of the trip was Lenka’s visit to her old
school, where we were all welcomed like we were still part of the community.
As you may remember from earlier posts, it was Lenka, who
initiated our thoughts of moving back to Poland. This time, on the first day
back in Liverpool, she asked if we could move back. Facepalm. Not happening. But
it only shows how well she still feels there, and I hope it will stay like this
for her. In the end, time in Liverpool is 50% of her life.
And Laura got to see her place of birth 😊.

ReplyDeleteReturning to Liverpool after a long hiatus due to the pandemic evoked strong emotions. Despite the initial anticipation of tears upon seeing our old house now occupied by someone else, I couldn't help but beam with joy from the moment I boarded the plane in Krakow, greeted by a Scouse-accented flight attendant. The streets of Liverpool embraced us as if we had never left, reconnecting us with familiar places and cherished friends. Surprisingly, chance encounters with acquaintances added to the sense of belonging. Lenka's visit to her former school was a highlight, as we were warmly welcomed back into the community. While the idea of moving back crossed our minds, it remains a distant possibility. Nevertheless, Coach hire liverpool continues to hold a special place in Lenka's heart, as it represents half of her life's experiences.
