Valencia and Madrid - Summer 2024 one week itinerary

Image
Day 1 - Valencia Our trip to Spain started with a very early morning (or rather night) flight to Valencia. After arrival, we reached our accommodation to leave the luggage, and as we still had a few long hours to kill and were quite exhausted, we first made a stop in a local bar for a coffee / drink. Our apartment was located near Jardines de Turia - a former riverbed turned into a park, which stretches for about 9km in the centre of Valencia - so we then went for a walk there, waiting for a lunch time to start in local restaurants. We found a simple local bar, with a lovely accommodating owner, who prepared the meals for us even though the kitchen was not open yet. Something we really needed at this moment of the day to not get totally grumpy after the almost sleepless travel night, with a tiredness peak. Our apartment service was also very accomodating, and as soon as we finished lunch, our apartment was ready to check in. After a late afternoon siesta, we went to the old town, taki...

South Sardinia - Easter week 2024 itinerary

Dates: 25 March - 1 April 2024 Day 1 Arrival in Cagliari on a late flight.  For our late-March stay in Sardinia we chose an apartment in the city centre, pedestrian area, and it worked out very well as this part of the city felt very lively with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. At the same time, the resort/beach areas around Cagliari seemed completely empty and shut down for off-season time. Day 2 Cagliari After a morning visit in the Civic Market of San Benedetto , where we stocked up on fresh vegetables, fruit and fish, we spent our first day wandering around the city. We started with climbing up the stairs of Bastion Saint Remy , for a spectacular view of the city. After that we headed to the medieval Castello district and the Cagliari Cathedral.  Built in 13th century and renovated later in a baroque style, it features a unique underground crypt Shrine of the Martyrs , with rich and very detailed baroque decorations. Bastion St Remy Cagliari Cathedral Shrine of the ...

St. Stephan Cathedral Our 3-day itinerary in Vienna in late November, including the Christmas markets. Dates: 24-27 November 2023 Group: 4 adults, 4 kids ages 4-12 Day 1 We arrived on a Friday afternoon and after checking in, headed straight to the St. Stephan Platz , for the first feel of the city. There is a Christmas market around the cathedral, with lots of local hand-crafted products, food and drinks. We visited the cathedral , enjoyed its Christmas illumination from the outside, and then took a walk via Graben , then main pedestrian street, also beautifully decorated for Christmas. We passed by the Spanish Riding School and, as a big part of our group are horse lovers, enjoyed a sneak at the horses standing in their stalls in the school’s back yard. We were interested in booking a training session to watch them in action, but unfortunately there were no sessions taking place during our stay (the calendar can be checked on their website). St. Stephan Cathedral - gingerbread ...

Day 1 Drive from home and arrival in Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina Drive from Poland to Mostar - our longest drive in this trip, around 15h including refreshment stops on the way. We made it! After arrival in Mostar – an evening walk in the old town and dinner in one of the restaurants with a view of the river. Mostar - view from the Old Bridge Day 2 Mostar A slow morning stroll in the old town , also through some smaller and less crowded streets and hidden corners. We watched people jump into the river, enjoyed some ice cream and souvenirs shopping (Lenka now brings a small figurine from every new place for her collection, while Laura is in a phase of literally wanting to buy every single thing she can see;)).  Lenka and I visited the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque and climbed up the stairs to the top of the minaret, for some of the best views of the Mostar old bridge . The mosque has an entry fee, which is a bit unusual for a working mosque, but the views are wort...
